“My wife had been taking lessons with Jill and I noticed a big improvement in her golf swing. So I asked her to schedule a lesson for me. After just 15 minutes with Jill she had fixed my swing. For the next three months I played at a 5 to 6 handicap and enjoyed golf more than ever.”

The Scally Golf Academy Junior Development Program is a long-term program designed to take your junior golfer as far as they want to go—casual golfer, high school golfer, college golfer or beyond.

The earlier you start your junior and the harder they work, the farther they may go. We are continuously improving upon our programs to provide fun and innovative instruction to juniors of all levels.

Both phases of our Junior Development Program use game-based instruction. Phase 1 is for kids 5-7 years old. This phase of instruction is based upon Level 1 and Level 2 of the U.S. Kids Golf Learning Program. Juniors will be instructed on the five core areas and requirements for skills tests of the U.S. Kids Program. These five core areas are putting, short game (i.e., around the green), full swing, knowledge and scoring. Juniors will receive a Level 1 or Level 2 booklet and bag tag. This class meets one time per week for eight weeks with testing done during class on weeks four and eight. Juniors may take this class until they pass all Level 1 and Level 2 skills tests or age out into the Operation 36 phase of our program.

Our second phase of our Junior Development Program is for ages 7 and up. This phase of our program is based upon the Operation 36 learning program. Operation 36® is organized by a network of golf professionals who believe that to grow the game, we need to have a motivating player development roadmap to help introduce and develop skilled golfers. The challenge we set for our players is the score of 36 (par for 9 holes). By training them from green to tee-box versus the traditional tee-box to green, it lowers the challenge point, and is a motivating way to learn and progress in the sport.

The Operation 36 program has six ranks and 12 subjects (badges) for 72 total objectives the players must accomplish to complete the program. You can choose from four separate packages that offer a mixture of Operation 36 Academy Classes, Op 36 Supervised Practice and Op 36 Matches. During the Op 36 Academy Classes, juniors learn the 6 level Operation 36 curriculum. During the Op 36 Supervised Practice phase, golfers can accelerate skill development by training alongside a coach who sets up structured practice sessions. During Op 36 Matches, golfers play from six different division tees with the goal of shooting 36 or better.

Our program runs in eight-week semesters, with testing done on weeks four and eight. We offer four semesters per year. It is recommended that juniors stay in the program until all (or nearly all) 72 objectives are completed. Again, this is a long-term program.  The amount of time it takes to complete all 72 objectives is based upon each golfer’s level of commitment to the program.

Do you feel you have some flexibility or strength limitations that are preventing you from swinging the golf club the way you think you should be swinging it? Or do you feel that you are physically unable to swing the golf club the way you used to be able to swing?

Jill Finlan Scally, LPGA T&CP, MOT is a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Expert who is able to administer a screen to identify physical factors that may be preventing you from reaching your full golf potential.  TPI is the premier source for golf performance research, knowledge and programs.  TPI methodology stresses the importance of the “body/swing connection.”  The premise behind this is that many golfers have physical limitations that prevent them from swinging the club the way they want to swing or the way they are being instructed to swing.  Unfortunately, these physical limitations can also lead to injuries over time.  These limitations may be due to lack of flexibility, insufficient strength or physical pain.

TPI has developed a 16 point physical screen designed to assess limitations in flexibility and/or strength that negatively impact the efficiency of a golfer’s swing.  Whether you are a young athlete who desires to play college golf or you are a weekend golfer who wants to hit the ball further and straighter, this assessment is essential to determine the path we take to improving your golf swing. Research proves that core strength, stability, balance and peripheral muscle strength are correlated with better golf performance.

Even if you do not desire to have a program developed for you, the 16 point screen will help determine what swing changes you cannot physically make based upon your body’s limitations.

Example:  Screen diagnoses a significant limitation in external shoulder rotation of your trail shoulder.  Your swing goal is to swing on plane or get in “the slot” on your downswing.  Determination: You will be physically unable to get into this position.  We then determine that your goal of swinging on plane does not match your current physical ability.  We must come up with a modified goal for your swing or decide to start a program to improve your physical limitations.

The TPI Screen and TPI Program can benefit you in the following ways:

  • Identify physical limitations that directly relate to swing faults
  • Reduce or eliminate physical limitations with a program prescribed for you
  • Decrease the risk of short term and long term injuries
  • Increaseclub head speed, distance and accuracy through increased rotational power, balance, flexibility and mobility

Let me help you work on your swing from the inside out.

TPI Physical Screen: $79

TPI Program: $199

Includes the following: Initial appointment with Jill to go over your program based on the results of your physical screen designed by the MyTPIPro website, access to the website, re-screen appointment with Jill at end of program.

We know there are a lot of options out there when it comes to golf instruction, and just as many questions.

  • Where do I start?
  • Which coach is best for me?
  • What is the time commitment?

The fact is, getting started on the road to better golf can be a bit daunting. That’s why we’ve developed the New Student Assessment at Golf Channel Academy.

The New Student Assessment affords you the opportunity to meet and interact with one of our Golf Channel Academy coaches at the facility in a relaxed, nurturing environment. Your coach will take the time to evaluate your game and recommend programs that align with your goals, available time and resources. It’s a smart first step in your journey to shoot consistently lower scores and have more fun playing golf.

During your assessment, you can reasonably expect the following to occur:

  • A discussion with your coach about your goals, physical fitness, current skill level, etc.
  • Video analysis and feedback of your swing.
  • A thorough evaluation of your game to pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses.
  • A summary including a suggested plan aligned with your needs and expectations.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

There is no obligation to commit to additional instruction following your New Student Assessment. If you decide to move forward with the Golf Channel Academy, you can expect your coach to walk you through all of the necessary steps to mastering the desired skill, so that you can take your game to the next level and sustain it for years to come.
