The Scally Golf Academy Junior Development Program is a long-term program designed to take your junior golfer as far as they want to go—casual golfer, high school golfer, college golfer or beyond.
The earlier you start your junior and the harder they work, the farther they may go. We are continuously improving upon our programs to provide fun and innovative instruction to juniors of all levels.
Both phases of our Junior Development Program use game-based instruction. Phase 1 is for kids 5-7 years old. This phase of instruction is based upon Level 1 and Level 2 of the U.S. Kids Golf Learning Program. Juniors will be instructed on the five core areas and requirements for skills tests of the U.S. Kids Program. These five core areas are putting, short game (i.e., around the green), full swing, knowledge and scoring. Juniors will receive a Level 1 or Level 2 booklet and bag tag. This class meets one time per week for eight weeks with testing done during class on weeks four and eight. Juniors may take this class until they pass all Level 1 and Level 2 skills tests or age out into the Operation 36 phase of our program.
Our second phase of our Junior Development Program is for ages 7 and up. This phase of our program is based upon the Operation 36 learning program. Operation 36® is organized by a network of golf professionals who believe that to grow the game, we need to have a motivating player development roadmap to help introduce and develop skilled golfers. The challenge we set for our players is the score of 36 (par for 9 holes). By training them from green to tee-box versus the traditional tee-box to green, it lowers the challenge point, and is a motivating way to learn and progress in the sport.
The Operation 36 program has six ranks and 12 subjects (badges) for 72 total objectives the players must accomplish to complete the program. You can choose from four separate packages that offer a mixture of Operation 36 Academy Classes, Op 36 Supervised Practice and Op 36 Matches. During the Op 36 Academy Classes, juniors learn the 6 level Operation 36 curriculum. During the Op 36 Supervised Practice phase, golfers can accelerate skill development by training alongside a coach who sets up structured practice sessions. During Op 36 Matches, golfers play from six different division tees with the goal of shooting 36 or better.
Our program runs in eight-week semesters, with testing done on weeks four and eight. We offer four semesters per year. It is recommended that juniors stay in the program until all (or nearly all) 72 objectives are completed. Again, this is a long-term program. The amount of time it takes to complete all 72 objectives is based upon each golfer’s level of commitment to the program.
